Overview

Sound notifications play a short sound when the chatbot replies, when an error occurs and when a visitor clears the chat. Visitors can turn sounds off from the chat menu.

Turning Sounds On or Off for Your Site

  1. Go to WPiko AI Chatbot → Chat Widget → Appearance → Menu Options.
  2. Under Sound notifications, turn Enable sound on or off (on by default).
  3. Click Save Chatbot Menu Settings.

In Menu text customization on the same page you can change the menu labels visitors see: Sound off text (default “Turn Sound Off”) and Sound on text (default “Turn Sound On”).

How Visitors Control Sound

Visitors open the menu in the chat header and choose Turn Sound Off or Turn Sound On. Their choice is remembered in their browser for future visits.

The Sounds

SoundWhen it playsFile
Message chimeA new reply arrivessounds/message-notification.mp3
Error toneA message can’t be answeredsounds/error-notification.mp3

Since version 2.1.0 the sounds are softer and about 80% smaller (about 20 KB in total). They are not downloaded when the page loads, only after the visitor starts chatting, so they don’t slow your site down.

Troubleshooting

  • No sound: check that Enable sound is on, the visitor hasn’t turned sound off in the chat menu, and the device isn’t muted. Browsers only allow sound after the visitor has interacted with the page.
  • The visitor’s choice isn’t remembered: the browser may be blocking site storage (for example in private mode).
  • Old sounds still play after updating: clear your caching plugin and browser cache.
