Proactive Greeting
Overview
The Proactive Greeting is a small message card that pops up next to the floating chat icon to invite visitors to start chatting. No click is needed to see it. Visitors can also type straight into the card, and the full chat opens with their message sent.
The greeting works with the Floating Chatbot, which must be enabled. It doesn’t appear with the shortcode chatbot.
Setting Up the Greeting
Go to WPiko Chatbot → Chat Experience → Proactive Greeting, change the settings and click Save Proactive Greeting Settings.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Enable Proactive Greeting | Shows the greeting card next to the floating chat icon | Off |
| Greeting Heading | Bold heading of the card. Leave empty to hide it. | Hi! |
| Greeting Message | The invitation text | Looking for something specific? We’ll help you find it! |
| When to Appear | Immediately on page load, After a delay, or After scrolling down the page | After a delay |
| Delay (seconds) | Wait time for “After a delay” (0–300) | 5 |
| Scroll Depth (%) | How far the visitor scrolls for “After scrolling” (1–100) | 30 |
| How Often to Show | Once per session (resets when the tab is closed), Only once (per visitor, remembered on that device), or Every page visit | Once per session |
| Quick Message Box | Lets visitors type a message directly in the card | On |
| Message Box Placeholder | Hint text in the quick message box | Write a message… |
| Hide Greeting on Devices | Hide the card on desktop, tablet and/or mobile | Shown everywhere |
The card appears on the same side as your floating icon. The Floating Chatbot’s device and page exclusions also apply to the greeting.
How the Quick Message Box Works
- The visitor types into the greeting card and sends.
- The full chat opens and their message is sent automatically.
- If Email Capture (Pro) is on, the visitor enters their name and email first, then the message is sent.
Tips
- Keep the message short and specific to your site: “Questions about sizing or delivery? Ask me!”
- A short delay (5–10 seconds) or a scroll trigger feels less intrusive than showing it immediately.
- “Once per session” is a good balance. “Every page visit” can feel pushy.
- Consider hiding it on mobile if it covers important content on small screens.
Troubleshooting
- The greeting doesn’t appear: check that both Enable Proactive Greeting and Enable Floating Chatbot are on, and that the page and device aren’t excluded.
- It appeared once and never again: that’s the frequency setting. Test in a private window, or set How Often to Show to Every page visit while testing.
- Changes don’t show: saving new settings shows the greeting again to visitors who already saw it. Clear your caching plugin if it still doesn’t update.
