Push Notifications and Device Management
Overview
Push notifications alert Administrators and Live Agents on their phones when a visitor sends a new message, even when the Mobile App is closed. WPiko Chatbot Pro also tracks which devices are subscribed, so you can remove old ones.
Turning On Push Notifications
- Go to WPiko Chatbot → Pro Features → Mobile App.
- Make sure Enable push notifications for new messages is ticked (on by default) and save. WPiko creates the required security keys (VAPID keys) automatically.
- On each phone, open the Mobile App, sign in and turn on push in the app’s settings.
- Allow notifications when the browser asks.
The device is linked to the signed-in WordPress user and appears in Registered Devices.
Requirements: HTTPS (or localhost), and a browser that supports Service Workers, the Push API and the Notifications API. On iPhone and iPad, install the app to the home screen first.
Registered Devices
The settings page lists each subscribed device with its Owner, Device (for example “iPhone / Safari” or “Android / Chrome”), Last Seen, Last Push Result and Registered date.
- Remove: click Remove to unsubscribe a device, for example a lost phone or an uninstalled app.
- Automatic cleanup: a device is removed only when the push service reports its subscription has expired (HTTP 404 or 410). Devices that are simply offline are kept.
- Turning push off in the app unsubscribes that device and removes it from the list.
Testing
Click Send Test Notification to check that your device receives alerts. Do this after enabling push for the first time, changing browser permissions or reinstalling the app.
Security
- The private push key is stored encrypted.
- Each subscription belongs to one WordPress user, so you always know whose device it is.
Best Practices
- Test on at least one real phone before relying on push for live support.
- Remove unused devices regularly.
- Give each team member their own account instead of sharing a login.
- When staff or devices change, revoke their old Application Passwords.
