Overview

The Setup Wizard gets your chatbot answering visitors in about 5 minutes, in three short steps: connect OpenAI, teach it your business, then test it and go live.

It opens automatically right after you activate WPiko Chatbot. Until setup is finished, it’s also in the plugin menu as Setup Wizard, and the Dashboard shows a Start the setup wizard button. After setup, the menu item disappears. You can run the wizard again any time with Run setup again on the Dashboard.

Step 1: Connect OpenAI

The chatbot runs on your own OpenAI account, so you pay OpenAI directly for what you use (usually a few dollars a month for a small site).

  1. Sign in to the OpenAI Platform (platform.openai.com). This is separate from ChatGPT. A ChatGPT Plus plan doesn’t include API usage.
  2. Add credit to your account. The API is prepaid, and $5 is enough to start.
  3. Create a secret key (it starts with sk-), paste it into OpenAI API key and click Save and test.

WPiko sends one tiny test message to OpenAI. When you see “Connected. OpenAI accepted your key and your account can answer messages.”, click Continue. If something is wrong, for example the account has no credit, the wizard tells you exactly what to fix. Use Test my connection again after fixing it, or Use a different key.

Step 2: Teach It About Your Business

  • Chatbot name: the name shown in the chat header.
  • What does your business do? One short line, for example “handmade leather bags shipped across Europe”.
  • Tone: Friendly, Professional, Casual, Formal or Enthusiastic.
  • Quick learn from your pages: tick up to 10 pages the chatbot should know about, such as About, FAQ, Shipping or Contact. Your most useful pages are suggested first. See Quick Learn from Your Pages.

Click Save and continue. You can upload PDFs or documents (price lists, FAQs, manuals) later in AI Configuration → File Management.

Step 3: Test It, Then Go Live

  1. Ask a question like a visitor would, or click a suggestion: “What do you offer?”, “How can I contact you?”, “Who are you?”. Test messages also appear in Conversations.
  2. Leave Show the chatbot on every page on to add a chat button to the corner of your site. You can exclude pages or use the [wpiko_chatbot] shortcode instead later.
  3. Click Finish and view my site. Your site opens in a new tab with the chatbot live.

From the last screen you can Go to the dashboard or Match it to my brand colors in Chatbot Style.

Next Steps

Updating from an older version? If your chatbot was already set up before 2.1.0, the wizard doesn’t appear in your menu. Use Run setup again on the Dashboard if you want to try it.
